Harrumph.  Allowing 4D but dodging crs definitions seems the wrong
priority to me.  Don't be sucked in by the "most data in the world is in
geographic coordinates" hype.  Most, even if that were true, does not
mean all, and I think that it would be wrong to ignore the rest.

Ranting aside, if you want XY, XYZ, XYM and XYZM, then explicit types
are necessary to distinguish between the second and third cases.
